Our School's Eco Warriors
Eco-schools is a national scheme which encourages schools to undertake projects which increase children's awareness of the quality of our environment. It requires the children to become actively involved in taking care of our world. If you would like to know more about the scheme visit www.eco-schools.org.uk
At the start of the academic year, the “Eco Warriors" are elected by their peers and consists of 6 children from Key Stage 1 and 16 children from Key Stage 2. They are to be their class representatives and make sure all the other children are kept informed with what the Eco Warriors are doing around school.
The Eco Warriors are currently working towards achieving the Bronze Award, building on the work they did for this last year. There are nine main topics covered as part of the eco-schools programme and the green team is raising the awareness of these throughout school. These are:
- Energy
- Water
- Biodiversity
- School grounds
- Healthy living
- Transport
- Litter
- Waste
- Global citizenship

This year, the Eco Warriors are focussing on the book 'A planet full of plastic' by Neal Layton. His book is prompting lots of discussion about the use of plastic and the importance of recycling. The children have created an action plan for the year ahead, based on the things they feel are important.
